Power Consumption

Power consumption calculation is a free tool that allows you to easily calculate power consumption (W) by inputting voltage (V) and current (A). By inputting the power consumption rate, you can also simulate power consumption per hour, annual power consumption, electricity bill for one year.

How to use

  1. Enter the voltage (V) and current (A).
  2. The power consumption (W), power consumption per hour, annual power consumption, and annual electricity bill will be calculated automatically.

What is power consumption?

Power consumption refers to the amount of electricity used when an electrical device operates. It is measured in watts (W), which is an indicator of how much power a device consumes. The higher the power consumption, the more power the device uses, and the higher the electricity bill tends to be.

Power consumption is determined by the product of voltage (V: volts) and current (A: amperes). For example, if a household electrical appliance has a voltage of 100V and a current of 1A, the power consumption is 100W.

Power consumption varies depending on the performance and usage of the device, and also affects the electricity bill. For example, energy-saving devices that use electricity efficiently often consume less power than other devices with the same functions.

How to calculate power consumption

  • Power consumption (W) = Voltage (V) x Current (A)
  • Power consumption per hour (kWh) = Power consumption (W) / 1000 x 1 hour (h)
  • Power consumption per day (kWh) = Power consumption (W) / 1000 x 1 day's usage time (h)
  • Annual power consumption (kWh) = Power consumption per hour (kWh) x 1 day's usage time (h) x 365 days
  • Electricity bill per year (yen) = Annual power consumption (kWh) x Unit price of electricity (yen/kWh)

Terms related to power consumption calculation

  • Voltage (V)Indicates the magnitude of the force pushing out electricity. It is a unit that indicates the energy strength of the power source.
  • Current (A) A unit that indicates the amount of electricity flow, the amount of electrons when electricity passes through a circuit.
  • Power consumption (W) The amount of power used when an electrical device operates, the product of voltage and current.
  • Rated power consumption (W) The power consumed at a capacity that can be stably output under conditions based on JIS standards.
  • Power consumption (kW) The amount of energy consumed, calculated by accumulating power consumption over time, and how long the power was used.
  • Electricity bill (yen) The cost paid according to the amount of power consumed.

How to check data for power consumption calculation

How to check voltage (V)

Home appliances and electrical devices have a label with the voltage on it. The easiest way to check this is to check it.

How to check the current (A)

  • Use a tester
  • Check the manual
  • Calculate "Electrical appliance power consumption (W) / voltage (V)"

How to check the unit price of electricity (yen/kWh)

  • Check on the website of the contracted electric power company
  • Check on the bill sent by the contracted electric power company
  • Electricity fee guidelineCheck on the bill sent by the electric power company
  • Use the guideline unit price of 31 yen per kWh set by the National Fair Trade Council for Home Electrical Appliances
